Marbete Calculator

The marbete is not one charge: it is license fees, ACAA, compulsory insurance and inspection, each with its own rule. This calculator gives you the full breakdown for your vehicle and coverage, so you know what to bring before you go.

If your marbete is expired, Hacienda adds late charges this calculator does NOT include: public sources disagree on the amount, so we will not invent one. Confirm the exact surcharge with CESCO or Hacienda.

Estimate based on: $44 license fees for private cars (Act 102-2022), $11 motorcycles and $56 commercial (9 LPRA § 5682); ACAA per the coverage you choose (acaa.pr.gov); compulsory insurance of $99 personal / $148 commercial; inspection of $20 regular / $40 diesel truck (in force since February 2024). Verified August 2026. The final price is determined by Hacienda at renewal.

About this calculator

What the total includes

License fees are $44 a year for private cars since Act 102-2022 — no longer by weight, as many still believe. Motorcycles pay $11 and light commercial vehicles $56.

ACAA is not a fixed charge: at renewal you choose the $35 basic coverage, $50 Plus or $70 Premium. The calculator lets you pick yours.

Compulsory liability insurance is $99 for personal vehicles and $148 for commercial ones — but if your private policy already covers liability, your insurer issues a voucher and that line disappears. Check the box to see your total without it.

Inspection costs $20 for regular vehicles and $40 for diesel trucks since February 2024. Vehicles two years old or newer are exempt, and the calculator applies that automatically from the year you enter.

What this calculator does not include

Late-renewal surcharges are deliberately not in the total: public sources give different versions of the amount, and telling you that beats inventing a figure. If your marbete is expired, confirm the exact surcharge with CESCO or Hacienda before going.

Heavy commercial vehicles — cargo capacity above 2 tons — pay a tonnage scale that is not computed here either.

Pending traffic fines, liens or unpaid tolls can block the renewal or add charges. That is between you and DTOP's system.

The marbete by vehicle type

The full total for each type, inspection included and no voucher. That is the most expensive case; yours goes down from there.

Private car$44.00$35.00$99.00$20.00$198.00

Commercial$56.00$35.00$148.00$40.00$279.00

With basic ACAA coverage and no private-insurance voucher. A vehicle 2 years old or newer pays no inspection; with a voucher, compulsory insurance does not apply.

Important limitations

  • Fees, inspection and premiums come from the law and public sources verified in August 2026; the final price is determined by Hacienda at renewal.
  • Does not include late surcharges or the tonnage scale for heavy commercial vehicles.
  • A private-use SUV or pickup is treated as a private automobile ($44); if yours is registered as commercial, choose Commercial.
