About this calculator
How it works
Amount financed = vehicle price − down payment − trade-in equity, where equity is the trade-in value minus what you still owe on it.
The monthly payment uses the standard amortization formula: P × r ÷ (1 − (1 + r)^−n), where r is the monthly rate (APR ÷ 12) and n is the number of months.
Each month part of the payment covers interest and the rest reduces principal. Early payments are mostly interest; later ones are mostly principal. The amortization table shows it month by month.
Example
A $28,000 car with $3,000 down, no trade-in, at 8.5% APR for 72 months: you finance $25,000, the payment is about $444 per month and you would pay roughly $6,960 in interest.
Shorten the term to 60 months and the payment rises, but total interest drops significantly.
Important limitations
- It excludes insurance, registration, dealer fees, sales tax and add-on products rolled into financing.
- Dealers may add charges that change the real amount financed.
- Your approved APR depends on your credit; this is an estimate, not a financing offer.
