How this is calculated
Watts ÷ 1,000 gives kilowatts. Times hours per day gives kWh per day, and multiplied by days in the month and the price per kWh, the monthly cost.
It is the same arithmetic your utility does, applied to one appliance instead of the whole house.
Where to find the wattage
On the label, usually at the back or inside the door. If it lists amps and volts, multiply them: 8 A × 115 V is 920 W.
Appliances that cycle on and off, like fridges and inverter air conditioners, do not draw full power all the time. For those, lower the hours: a fridge plugged in 24 hours may only really run for 8.
Important limitations
- The price per kWh is not taken from any published tariff. Your bill mixes a base rate with adjustments that move, so the figure to use is the one on your receipt.
- Preset wattages are typical values, not a measurement of your unit.
- Inverter and cycling appliances do not draw steadily; adjust the hours to get closer.
