About this calculator

How it works

Days accrued = qualifying months × days accrued per month, calculated separately for vacation and sick leave because they almost always accrue at different rates.

The available balance subtracts the days you already took. Converting to hours multiplies days by the length of your workday.

A month qualifies when you work the minimum number of hours that applies to your case. Months where you fell short should not be counted.

Example

With 12 qualifying months, accruing 1.25 vacation days and 1 sick day per month: you accrued 15 vacation days and 12 sick days. If you already took 5 and 2, you have 10 and 10 left — 80 and 80 hours on an 8-hour workday.

Important limitations

  • Accrual rates are a field you enter, not something the calculator determines. The rates set by law depend on your hire date, employer size, years of service, monthly hours and whether your position is exempt.
  • The presets are common reference values to get you started, not a determination of what you are owed. Use the rate in your contract, collective agreement or employee handbook.
  • It does not model accrual caps, use-it-or-lose-it policies, carryover between years or payout at separation.
  • Verify your case with your employer, your collective bargaining agreement or the Department of Labor and Human Resources.
